Re: The Forbidden Kingdom, coming soon
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 4:41 PMthis looks awesome. I cant wait to go see it in the threatre on august 18th. Jackie hasn't been in american theatres too much, so I have to go see it. The last one I saw was Rush Hour 3, and before that, Around the World in 80 days, and before that...Mr. Nice Guy. So you can see how important it is to go see his movie :) They don't come often enough..

Re: The Forbidden Kingdom, coming soon
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 1:07 PMThat was lots of fun...
www.imdb.com/title/tt0865556/
I can't really say anything bad about the movie, it was just good stuff all the way around, a great adventure. Also it's one of those rare films that could appeal to someone 8 or 80 without any trouble. Jacky and Jet were of course very good although I didn't go to see the film because of them or their team up, I just wanted a cool story. Jack also played a Taoist which I got a real kick out of, nice little Taoist messages came up here and there. Also Crystal Liu Yifei was great as Golden Sparrow, totally talented and very cute! I think she has a bright future ahead of her (cheesy english fan site here... crystalliuyifei.com/ )
Interesting note, the original concept for the story was developed from a tale that the writer used to tell to his child, pretty cool. -

Re: The Forbidden Kingdom, coming soon
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 2:44 PMYeah, Chris and I enjoyed it. Competently made.
Purists might whine that it feels like the American fantasy version of a Chinese wuxia movie, but it's aimed at the family market. I was thrilled that they went out of their way to hire a 95% Chinese cast, and shoot in China with a mostly Chinese crew. There are even some subtitles!
Good fun, and some entertaining Yuen Wo Ping-choreographed fight scenes -- especially the first encounter with Jacky and Jet. -

Mon, April 21, 2008 - 4:21 PMentertaining enough. smells like karate kid, but thankfully has more going for it...jet li makes a great 'monkey king', jackie chan revisits the drunken master routine...great costumes...6.5 out of 10. -

Re: The Forbidden Kingdom, coming soon
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 11:34 PM6.5 ouch! It was at least twice as good as 2046 which should make it an 8 minimum lol!

Re: The Forbidden Kingdom, coming soon
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 5:51 AMNo I agree 6.5 or so. All of the "American kid fighting bullies" stuff was stupid and campily done... -

Re: The Forbidden Kingdom, coming soon
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 10:06 AMi actually thought that was fine, less cheesy than i expected and it was such a small part of the film. i wish i had kids to take to this one, it would be a great intro to asian cinema for them. -

Re: The Forbidden Kingdom, coming soon
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 10:03 PMby the way apparently this is a modern adaptation of an old Chinese tale called Journey to the West...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jour...o_the_West
my Taoist friend was speaking of it tonight.

Re: The Forbidden Kingdom, coming soon
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 12:42 AMYeah, I've watched Stephen Chow's "Chinese Odyssey," another adaptation of the story, but wasn't impressed with it. Surprisingly, I found "Forbidden Kingdom" to be much better, and I say this as a huge Chow fan. -

Re: The Forbidden Kingdom, coming soon
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 2:51 PMSounds like trash, atom!
What a surreal cast: Burt Kwouk (Kato from the "Pink Panther" films) and Bai Ling (who can't really act and who is prone to eccentric behavior -- I've seen her live). And let's give a big hand to Turbo Kong (sounds like a gorilla with a Serbian name, and I'm sure you all remember his character, Enormous Prisoner, in "Batman Begins"), and my new favorite sound-alike name, Jacqui Chan.
Does it suck as hard as it sounds?
